Privacy Policy
Simple, plain English. Last updated: April 2026.
What we collect
We collect minimal data to understand how the site is used and improve it over time. Specifically:
- Page views — which pages are visited and how often.
- Translation metadata — which translator modes are selected, the length of input text, and whether a translation succeeded or failed. We do not store your actual input text by default.
- Session identifiers — a random anonymous ID stored in your browser's session storage. It resets when you close your tab. No login or account required.
- Traffic sources — referrer URLs, UTM parameters (e.g. from links shared on social media), device type, and browser name. This helps us understand where visitors come from.
- Contact form submissions — if you use the contact form, we receive your name, email, subject, and message. This is stored only as long as needed to respond.
What we don't collect
- Your translation text is not stored on our servers by default.
- We don't build user profiles or track you across sessions.
- We don't use third-party advertising trackers (no Google Ads, Meta Pixel, etc.).
- We don't sell data to anyone.
Cookies and session storage
OldLingo uses session storage (not cookies) to hold an anonymous session ID. This ID disappears when you close your browser tab and is never tied to your identity.
If you use the admin dashboard, a short-lived authentication cookie is set. It expires after 7 days and is only used to keep you logged in to the admin area.
We don't use tracking cookies or third-party cookies.
AI and third-party processing
Translations are generated using OpenAI's API. When you submit a translation, your input text is sent to OpenAI for processing. OpenAI has its own privacy policy and data handling practices. We recommend reviewing OpenAI's privacy policy if you have questions about how they handle inputs.
We do not intentionally send personal or sensitive information to OpenAI. Please avoid entering personally identifiable information in translation inputs.
Contact form
If you send us a message through the contact form, we receive your name, email address, subject, and message. This information is used only to respond to your inquiry. We use Gmail/SMTP to deliver form submissions to our inbox. We don't share this information with third parties.
Your rights
Since we don't store personal data by default, there's typically nothing to delete. If you submitted a contact form and want your message removed, or have any other privacy concern, email us and we'll sort it out quickly.
Policy updates
If we make meaningful changes to this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page. We don't do sneaky changes — if something significant shifts, we'll note it clearly.
